The film relates how a popular singer/songwriter from Ithaca, NY, Joe Crookston, came to meet a Holocaust survivor from Elmira, Dina Jacobson. After hearing Dina's stories of life in Eastern Europe and her experience at Auschwitz, Joe was inspired to write a deeply moving song on which the film is based, "Blue Tattoo." The song is told from the perspective of Dina, newly emigrated to America, trying to explain the blue tattoo on her arm to her inquisitive four year old daughter, without destroying her child's sense of innocence.
