After leaving their native village, Nadia and her friend travel to the big city. Along the way, Nadia gets a job in a tea shop and meets Maxim, and she falls in love with him and decides to finally go to the city. There, she is hired as a maid by Valentina Ivanovna, a civil servant, who also has a relationship with Maxim.
