Biography
Abena Ayivor was born in Kitwe in Zambia to a Ghanaian dad and a Zambian/South African mother in 1975. She left Zambia with her family to settle in South Africa at a very young age , the period within which her appreciation for the arts began. Abena enrolled at University of Cape Town to study law but dropped out to follow her – passion – drama, at City Varsity School Of Film and Multimedia. Her first professional experience was as a stand in for Angela Basset in the movie Boesman and Lena in 1999. She joined the cast of popular South African soapie Generations as Lerato. She quit in 2003. She played Kwezi in SABC 3 drama ‘This Life’ and also appeared in the Canadian Sci Fi drama ‘Charlie Jade’. She appeared in local and international productions including playing Claudia in the drama Honour. Abena played the role of Dineo Sekete the daughter of villain Barker Haines in Isidingo. She also appeared in some BBC-funded productions such as The Royal Blood and Oil and Wild at Heart and also feature films Machine Gun Preacher and The Dinosaur as lead character. Abena is a voice over artist and a MC. She’s appeared in Television and radio commercials. Her very recent role on television is Abena Peprah, a highly placed lawyer in Jacob’s Cross.
